Brno

Brno is the traditional capital city of Moravia and the second largest city in the Czech Republic with population of 405,000 people. The city is located in the southeastern part of the country, at the confluence of the Svitava and Svratka rivers. Brno has 26 faculties of 11 universities and it is making it an important center of Czech higher education. The most important main sights of the city are the castle Špilberk originally a royal castle, but from the 17th century a fortress and feared prison and the Cathedral of Saint Peter and Paul built during the 14th and 15th centuries. The other castle in Brno is castle Veveri, near Brno Dam Lake. UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites included Villa Tugendhat as an important monument of Brno. Famous attractive location among tourists and even locals is Moravian Karst. Moravian Karst is a karst landscape and protected nature reserve. Brno is home to a Synagogue and one of the largest Jewish Cemeteries in Moravia. The Brno Exhibition Centre is the city's premier attraction for international business visitors.
