Herceg Novi

Herceg Novi is a coastal town in Montenegro located at the foot of Mount Orjen and at the entrance to the Bay of Kotor. The city was known as Castelnuovo, in Italian for New Castle. Herceg Novi is a young city and it was founded as a fortress in 1382 by Bosnian King Stjepan Tvrtko. The people that live here are mostly Serbs and Montenegrins and minorities (Croats, Romas, Muslims, Bosniaks, Albanians and others). The climate of Herceg Novi is mediterranean with dry and hot summers and warm winters. From May to the Semptember average temperatures are about 25 °C. Herceg Novi is a major destination in Montenegro for tourists for it's helth and spa center. The most famous tourist attractions are castle Forte Mare built by the Bosnian king Tvrtko I in 1382, the Serbian church St. Michael Archangel, the Kanli tower built by Turks, and a clock tower built by Austrians in 19th century.Because it doesn't have long sandy beaches tourists mostly go to other beaches by boats, and the tourist companies organises boat trips. Herceg Novi is a very beautiful and peaceful place and many tourists come to to enjoy and relax.
