Munich
Munich is the capital city of Bavaria, Germany and it is located on the river Isar north of the Bavarian Alps. It is the third largest city in Germany after Hamburg and Berlin. The population is around 1.4 million people.Munich hosted the 1972 Summer Olympics. Munich has a continental climate, strongly modified by the proximity of the Alps. One of the city most famous landmarks is the Marienplatz, a large open square named after the Mariensäule, a Marian column in its centre with the Old and the New Town Hall. The Michaelskirche is the largest renaissance church north of the Alps. The large Residenz palace complex on the edge of Munich's Old Town ranks among Europe's most significant museums of interior decoration. Famous among tourists are Ludwigstrasse, Maximilianeum and Nymphenburg Palace. Munich is a green city with numerous parks and the biggest one is the Englischer Garten. The city is home to several professional football teams, including FC Bayern which is Germany's most popular and most successful club. Most popular football stadium is Allianz Arena which changes color in the night. There are many galleries, theatres and museums in Munich. Most popular are the Deutsches Museum and Museum Brandhorst. The Hofbräuhaus am Platzl the most famous beer hall worldwide, is located in the city centre. Oktoberfest is a 16–18 day festival held each year running from late September to the first weekend in October.
