Slovenia

Slovenia, officially the Republic of Slovenia is a country in Central Europe and Southeastern Europe touching the Alps and bordering the Mediterranean. Slovenia borders Italy on the west, Croatia on the south and east, Hungary on the northeast, and Austria on the north, and also has a small portion of coastline along the Adriatic Sea. The country has a population of 2.05 million people. The capital and largest city is Ljubljana. In the Northeast, the continental climate type with greatest difference between winter and summer temperatures prevails. In the coastal region, there is sub-Mediterranean climate. Slovenia offers tourists a wide variety of landscapes in a small space: Alpine in the northwest, Mediterranean in the southwest, Pannonian in the northeast and Dinaric in the southeast. Popular destinacion's for tourists are Triglav National Park with Mount Triglav in the middle, Lake Bled and the Soča Valley, the Postojna Cave, Škocjan Caves, the Predjama Castle, Piran city, Portorož town, and several spa centers such as Rogaška Slatina, Radenci, Čatež ob Savi, Dobrna, and Moravske Toplice. Slovenes are predominantly Roman Catholic and the Basilica of the Virgin Mary in Brezje is also known as the Slovenian National Shrine and it is the most important Roman Catholic pilgrimage church in Slovenia. There are also Lutheran church in Bodonci in the Prekmurje region and Serbian Orthodox Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius in Ljubljana.
