Sofia

Sofia is the capital city of Bulgaria and the biggest city in the country with around 1.4 million citizens. It is located in western Bulgaria, at the foot of Mount Vitosha. The city has a humid continental climate with high temperature amplitudes with hottest temperatures in July and the coldest in January. For a short period during the 4th century BC, the city was ruled by Philip of Macedon and his son Alexander the Great. In 447. the city was destroyed by the Huns but was rebuilt by Justinian. Ancient Roman, Byzantine and medieval Bulgarian buildings have been preserved in the city. After the World War II great influence on the city and it'a architecture had SSSR. The oldest building in Sofia is the Church of St. George. There are many museums like National Historical Museum, the Bulgarian Natural History Museum, the Museum of Earth and Men, the Ethnographic Museum, the National Museum of Military History, the National Polytechnical Museum and the National Archaeological Museum where tourist and visitor can learn more about Sofia and its history.
