Szeged

Szeged is the third largest city of Hungary located south on the border with Serbia and Romania with population around 170.000 citizens. Szeged's climate is transitional between oceanic and continental with cold winters, hot summers, and fairly low precipitation. The most famous attractions are Open Air Plays of Szeged held every summer. Szeged is known as the home of paprika, a spice made from dried, powdered capsicum vegetables and Szekelygulyas, a goulash made with pork, sauerkraut and sour cream.The city has four squares Széchenyi Square, Klauzál Square, Dugonics Square, Arad Martyrs Square. Szeged is famous for it's landmarks such as City centre, Dóm tér ("Cathedral Square") with the Votive Church of Our Lady of Hungary, Gothic Church of Grey Friars from 15th century, the Water Tower, Dömötör Tower from 13th century, Ferenc Móra Museum, Reök Palace, Szeged Synagogue, Szeged City Hall, National Theatre of Szeged, Gróf-palace built in 1913, Minorite Church, Fekete Haz "Black House" Museum of Currency.One of the specialities of the square is the musical clock as a symbol of mediaeval universities built in the wall of the square’s building opposite to the main entrance of the Cathedral. Today's Szeged is an important university town and a popular tourist attraction.
