Hvar is a Croatian island located off the Dalmatian coast in the Adriatic Sea. The island has more than 11,000 residents which mostly work in the fishing and tourism industries. Stari Grad city in Hvar is one of the oldest cities in Europe and it is now UNESCO World Heritage Site. The climate of Hvar is characterized by mild winters and warm summers and it has 2715 hours of sunlight in an average year. Hvar is also one of the most famous winemaking zones in Croatia and very active in the cultivation of lavender. Hvar town is the main tourist center. with a large public square St Stephen's Square that is open to the sea. The island is very popular during the tourist seasons with many hotels, apartments, restaurants, marinas, museums, galleries and cafes.
