Borgo Maggiore is one of the 9 communes or "castelli" of San Marino. It lies at the foot of Monte Titano in the center of San Masino. Founded in the XII century, the center was originally named Mercatale, since it was dedicated to markets and fairs. It is the second largest town in San Marino after Dogana with a population around 6.000 inhabitants. It is the only city in San Marino that has heliport and it is the main market place in the country. Also has the only McDonalds restaurant in the country. The city has town square which is called Piazza Grande. The tourist’s attractions include many churches, monasteries, cathedrals and museums. The Municipal Hall is located in the Casa del Castello di Borgo Maggiore.
