Pula

Pula is the largest city in Istria County, Croatia with a population more than 62,000 inhabitants. The city has a long tradition of shipbuilding, winemaking, fishing and tourism. Pula is the city with long long history. The first people were here 1 million years ago. From small village it became a large sea base under the Austiran Empire. The city is famous for its Pula Arena which dates from ancient Roman times.The two also famous ancient Roman structures are triumphal arch (the Arch of the Sergii) and temple of Rome and Augustus built in 1st century AD. The other main sites of the city are The Twin Gates, The Gate of Hercules, The Augustan Forum, Two Roman theatres, The Byzantine chapel of St. Mary Formosa, The Church of St. Francis, The Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, The Orthodox Church of St. Nicholas, The Archaeological Museum of Istria and many more. The climate is Mediterranean with lot of moisture in the air. Average temperatures are between 6 and 24 °C. Pula Airport is located north-east of Pula, and serves both domestic and international destinations.
