Ohrid
Ohrid is a city on the eastern shore of Lake Ohrid in the Republic of Macedonia with population of 42,000 inhabitants. The city was notable for having a 365 churches. Church for every day in the year but today this number is much smaller. During the medieval times, Ohrid was called Slavic Jerusalem and had been orthodox holy center of the region. Ohrid and Lake Ohrid were accepted as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1980. Lake Ohrid rightly deserves the name “Macedonia’s freshwater sea”. Not only for its warm water blue colour, which gains its intensity from the sky blue colour, but because of its size. This lake gives an impression of being a sea. In 1958. it was designated as a National park because of its very high biodiversity, extremely rich flora and fauna and exceptional natural beauty.
