Siem Reap

Siem Reap is the capital city of Siem Reap Province in northwestern Cambodia. It lies on the Siem Reap River. Near the town is the millennium-old temple ruins of the Khmer Empire. Siem Reap has a opulation of more then 170.000 people. The main industry is tourism with large number of landmarks and sights mostly located around the Old Market. There is a wide range of hotels, chic resorts and hundreds of budget guesthouses. Most famous sight of Siem Reap is the Angkor Wat temple. Temple is the central feature of the Angkor UNESCO World Heritage Site containing the magnificent remains of the Khmer civilization. Angkor Thom is inner royal city that was built in 12th century, Psar Chaa is a flea market, the Central Market is a palce where you can find food, clothes and jewellery. Siem Reap has two museums, the Cambodia Landmine Museum is 12 miles located out of the city and the Angkor National Museum which covers Khmer history, civilization, and cultural heritage in eight galleries. 2 kilometers out of the city is a famous market called Phsar Leu Thom Thmei where people sell all kinds of stuff. Floating Village of Konpong Phluk and the Thommanon Temple are also very visited sights. The town is 7 km from the Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport.
