Opatija
Opatija is a town in western Croatia on the Adriatic coast with a population of about 8,000. The city is located near Pula and Trieste. The climate is mediterian with rainy days during the year and temperatures between 10 °C in winter, and 25 °C in summer. The most popular city site is the Maiden with the seagull which stands in front of Saint James's Church and now is one of symbols of Opatija. Opatija Sv. Jakova ("Abbey of Saint James") was built in 1506 and enlarged in 1937 is located in Park Svetog Jakova or Saint James's Park. Villa Angiolina built in 1844 by Iginio Scarpa is now a hotel which gave the town popularity among the tourists. Also very popular places are Hotel Kvarner built in 1884 and the Restaurant Kamelija. Opatija is a great tourist place surrouned with beautiful woods and on the whole sea-coast is rocky and picturesque with several winter resorts.
