Skopje
Skoplje is the capital and largest city of the Republic of Macedonia with land area of 1,854 km2. It is located in the in the northern Macedonia, in the centre of the Balkans.The city experiences a humid subtropical climate. The territory of modern Skopje has been inhabited since at least 4000 BC so it has many ancient and culture landmarks such as Skopje Fortress which was built by the Byzantines in the 6th century. The Stone Bridge was built under the patronage of Sultan Mehmed II the Conqueror when the Ottoman empire was the strongest. The Old Town was one of the largest and most significant oriental bazaars in the Balkans.In 2009 Memorial House of Mother Teresa was opened. In 1963. there was a disastrous earthquake which destroyed 80% of the city. Skoplje is the main road between the Greece and rest of Europe.
