Ankara

Ankara is the capital and second largest city after Istanbul of Turkey. The city had a population of 4,500,000 inhabitants. Ankara is a very old city with various Hittite, Phrygian, Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman archaeological sites and it is located in the center of the country and has a continental climate, with cold, snowy winters and hot, dry summers. The city's archeological sites are Ankara Citadel, Roman Bath, Temple of Augustus and Rome, Ankara Citadel, Column of Julian, the Alaaddin Mosque, Ahi Elvan Mosque, Hacı Bayram Mosque,Kocatepe Mosque, Yeni (Cenab Ahmet) Mosque. Many museums are located in Ankara such as Anıtkabir, Cer Modern, State Art and Sculpture Museum, Museum of Anatolian Civilizations, Ankara Ethnography Museum, War of Independence Museum, TCDD Open Air Steam Locomotive Museum, Ankara Aviation Museum, METU Science and Technology Museum. Some of the modern architecture are Victory Monument, Monument to a Secure, Confident Future, Hatti Monument. Ankara has many parks and shops that are famous among tourists. Most famous location for shopping is the old shops in Çıkrıkçılar Yokuşu (Weavers' Road) near Ulus. City is famous for its local varieties of grapes and wines, such as Kalecik Karası and Kavaklıdere.
