India is a country located in South Asia. It is the seventh-largest country by geographical area, the second-most populous country with over 1.2 billion people. Country is bounded by the Indian Ocean on the south, the Arabian Sea on the southwest, and the Bay of Bengal on the southeast. India borders with Pakistan to the west, Bhutan, the People's Republic of China and Nepal to the northeast, and Bangladesh and Burma to the east. The capital city is New Delhi, but the largest city is Mumbai. India's climate is strongly influenced by the Himalayas and the Thar Desert, both of which drive the monsoons. Famous sights and landmarks of the India are the Taj Mahal in Agra, the Mahabodhi Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, at Bodhgaya in Bihar, Bandhavgarh National Park, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Khajuraho Temples, Kerala Backwaters and many more. Indian cuisine is best known for its delicate use of herbs and spices and for its tandoori grilling techniques. Diwali, Ganesh Chaturthi, Thai Pongal, Holi, Durga Puja, Eid ul-Fitr, Bakr-Id, Christmas, and Vaisakhi are some ot the best known festivals in India. India's well-known folk dances are the bhangra of the Punjab, the bihu of Assam, the chhau of West Bengal, Jharkhand , sambalpuri of Orissa , the ghoomar of Rajasthan and the Lavani of Maharashtra. Field hockey is official national sport but the cricket is by far the most popular sport in India.
