Marrakech

Marrakech also known as the "Red City", is the most important former imperial city in Morocco's history. It has a population of more than 1.070.000 people and it is located near the foothills of the snow-capped Atlas Mountains. Marrakech has a semi-arid climate, with hot dry summers and mild wet winters. Most famous sight of the city is the Djemaa el Fna square and market place which service both the common daily needs of the people of the city, and the tourist trade. The square bustles with acrobats, story-tellers, water sellers, dancers and musicians and by night food stalls open in the square turning it into a huge busy open-air restaurant. Medina is an old fortified city and Gueliz n adjacent modern city both part of the Marrakech. The Koutoubia Mosque was built in the 12th century CE and is the largest mosque in the city. On the west side of the city there are the Menara gardens.The main sights of the Marrakech are the valley of the Ourika River in the Atlas Mountains and the valley of the Draa River in the south, near the Sahara desert. The city has an international airport called Menara International Airport with flights from Europe and neighboring Arab countries.
